RIDGECREST ROAR Jan. 16, 2022
Good evening Ridgecrest families,
What a week! There has been a lot of information shared this week from our district and state. Throughout this flood of changing information and circumstances our school community has pulled together to take care of each other with challenging circumstances, to communicate kindly, and to exhibit flexibility and resilience.
We have had many staff members, and students absent, but members of our community have stepped in to fill the gaps! We have had differences of opinion, but most communication was resolved positively and with empathy and kindness toward each other. We have cancelled upcoming events that we were excited about, but our community has been understanding knowing that we will do our best to reschedule later in the year if possible. This is what makes Ridgecrest so special. Thank you.
School Information
We do have a significant number of positive Covid cases at Ridgecrest right now. Please continue to monitor your child for symptoms and keep them home if they are ill. It is more important than ever that we try to keep our staff and students healthy. Please continue to send masks with your child each day and a spare in their backpack if possible. We do have a supply at the school for students, but we are going through them quickly.
5 Day Reset – Ridgecrest will be closed on Monday, Jan. 17 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. We will also be closed on Jan. 18 for a remote-learning day. Students are expected to participate in learning on Tuesday. Teachers have provided learning opportunities for your student as a packet or on Canvas. Please look for information from your child’s teacher for more specific information. Teachers will be available on remote-learning days via email and connect with students through Canvas and Zoom or Google Meet. This is providing a 5-day reset that we hope will help us to mitigate the spread of illness. We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022.
Lunch is Available
Canyons District’s lunch crews remain committed to ensuring all students have uninterrupted access to nutritious meals. Four school locations will be serving grab-and-go sack lunches on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022, to fuel students’ remote learning. Zones of Regulation-
This week we are reviewing the feelings and body clues that we experience in the Blue Zone when our engine is running slow. We are learning about the different strategies we can use when we are in the Blue Zone to help us get to the Green Zone. Here’s the video: https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/c3V2bvVopkA
For Parents/Guardians:
Canyons Family Center: The Canyons Family Center provides a spectrum of services including individual counseling, student-support groups, and parent-education classes. Counseling services will include a preliminary intake process to help our experienced school psychologists and social workers determine what services may be needed to meet a family’s specific needs, whether as a result of an emotional crisis, or not, and are provided at no cost to families in Canyons School District. Attached is a flier detailing their upcoming classes.
Champions Day Care Program: We are pleased to announce that Champions, an after-school daycare program, will be using Ridgecrest as a host site in January. Please read the attached letter for more information.

The Countdown to Supplemental Kindergarten: The coming school year may seem light-years away, but the time to plan for kindergarten is now. Our school is pleased to be offering Supplemental Hours of Kindergarten Instruction, and you can apply to enroll for the 2022-2023 school year starting Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. Students must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2022, to participate in the opt-in, tuition-based program. Space is limited and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Phase one of the application process will end on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 11:59 p.m. By Feb. 15, families will be notified of whether their students have been admitted or placed on a waiting list with the option of enrolling in another Canyons District school with openings. Supplemental Kindergarten sets up students for a successful school launch by providing four additional hours of instruction every school day. Participants begin and end school the same time as their first- through fifth-grade peers. Cost for the program is $2,950 a year and can be paid in monthly installments. A 10 percent discount is available for parents and guardians who pay the yearly tuition in full at one time. There also is a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of $100. Financial-need scholarships also are available for qualifying students. More information, including answers to common questions, is on the CSD website.
