Ridgecrest Elementary School Community Council 

Monthly Meeting Minutes

Wednesday, Jan 24th, 2024-  4:00pm- Library

  • Call to Order 4:01 pm
    • In attendance: Sara Allen, Anna Whiteley, Londyn Freeman, Jeanne Herbert, Carrie Christensen, Bradley Hunter, Brooke Schneider, Cort Bouldin, Stephanie McCabe, Summer Gallegos, Bradley Hunter
  • Finalize the Final Report for previous year’s plan- Due end of January
    • Has been submitted.  Although we did not meet our goals we made significant progress toward our goals.
    • Land Trust:$615.00 accounting error listed as a “hardware” – it was actually for Playworks materials and CSD was notified.
  • Begin writing plans for the next school year: (Due April 9th)
    • Looked at Reading and Math goals for the year and Mid-year assessment progress toward the goals.  Also looked at the Attendance goal to date.  Data shows we are progressing toward the  goals and in some grades and attendance are on track to exceed the goals.
      • Sara will work with BLT on next year’s goals then share with SCC.
    • On track with the budget plan for next year.
    • TSSP:  There is money set aside for people and likely will have enough to hire additionally for the next school year.
    • Land Trust:
    • Positive Behavior Plan:
  • Review to ensure we are on course with Current Year’s:
    • LAND Trust Plan:
    • Data – data from recent testing shared with SCC.  We are on course to meet most, if not all of the current year’s goals.
    • Expenditures
  • Use/Expenditure of Cell Tower Funds : approval to use funds for faculty needs and expenses.
  • Review Governor’s Request to Remove Cell Phones from Classrooms:
    • As a district the superintendent would like schools to make the decision about cell phone policies based on what is best for each school.
    • Ridgecrest’s current policy on cell phones and electronic policy requires cell phones and internet enabled watches may not be used during classroom time, instructional activities or field trips.  Personal devices must remain off and in a backpack during class time. 
    • In BLT discuss alternatives/guideline  to electronic parties
    • Medical conditions that require a cell phone are excluded because the student is under the health guidelines established by the medical and school professionals.
  • Additional school climate updates or principal Report
    • Planning time proposal: to give elementary teachers essential planning time that is not a part of the current school day/week schedule.
      • Increase booster classes to give teachers 60 minute planning time four days a week.
      • Allocate an assistant principal/admin intern to each school
      • IEP block scheduling to allow IEP’s scheduled on the same school day and have a substitute available for teachers to attend the IEP meetings.
      • Next School board meeting to discuss the proposal is in February.
      • SCC is in support of the proposal.  Concerns about hiring necessary Booster teachers or staff if needed.
    • Safe Walking routes:
      • All municipalities have been met. Updates:
        • #1 & #4: 1700 East West Side and Fort Union are getting a sidewalk.  Concerns about the painted sidewalk were not addressed.
        • #2: Crosswalk sign more prominent and closer to the sidewalk.  Issue not addressed
        • #3: Schools should send out additional educational information to parents.    Sara asked SRO to watch for people and remind them of safety needs.
        • #5: Shrubs on Greenfield and bus stop concerns: Bus stop has been changed.  This has been an improvement for student safety.
        • Light cycles on 2000 East are not able to be changed.
