Ridgecrest Elementary School Community Council 

Monthly Meeting Minutes

Wednesday, Feb 21st, 2024-  4:00pm- Library

  • Call to Order : 4:06 pm
    • In attendance: Sara Allen, Anna Whitely, Londyn Freeman, Carrie Christensen, Summer Gallegos, Jeanne Herbert, Cort Bouldin and Brooke Schnieder
      • Calling In: Brad Hunter
      • Absent: Stephanie McCabe and Julia Jensen

 

  • Continue writing plans for the next school year: (Due April 9th)
  • Reviewed data from RISE and Acadience including trends since the 2020-2021 school year as evidence for creating goals for the 2024-2025 school year.  
  •  Considerations in making the goals are the questions:
    • What should proficiency look like for our students? 
    • What should growth look like for our students?

 

  • Proposed Goals for ELA: 
    • Kindergarten: At least 80% of students will be at or above Benchmark on NWF-CLS according to Acadience testing.
    • 1st-3rd Grades: At least 75% of students will be at or above Benchmark on ORF with at least 60% of students who score below or well below benchmark making typical or higher growth according to Acadience testing.
    • 4th-5th Grades: At least 60% of students will be at or above proficient in ELA as measured by the RISE benchmark assessments. (48.3% were proficient last year)
      • Propose to change the goal to “12% of students will show growth in proficiency.” 
  • Proposed Action Plan for ELA:
    • To help students transfer their word recognition and language skills to unfamiliar text, Ridgecrest Elementary will refine the use of our reading/writing curriculum, provide time for the Building Leadership Team (BLT) to develop goals, track progress, and create professional development opportunities, focus on PLC developed Common Formative Assessments (CFA), conduct observations of peers, provide training and coaching for all teachers, and hire and train interventionists.

 

  • Proposed Goal for Math:
    • At least 75% of 3-5 students, and at least 80% of K-2 students will be proficient on the Acadience Math Composite.
    • At least 60% of students who score below or well below benchmark will meet or exceed typical growth on the Acadience Math Composite Pathways.
  • Action Plan for Math:
    • To increase the math computation and applied reasoning skills of our students, Ridgecrest Elementary will hire and train interventionists to provide strategic math interventions for struggling students, focus on prioritized math strategies, purchase and utilize ST Math and Mystery Science to support practice of applied reasoning skills, and provide training, coaching, and feedback for teachers.

 

  • Proposed Goal for Attendance:
    • By Spring 2025, we will decrease the percentage of students who are at risk, off track, or severe with attendance by 5% each term, as measured by Early Warning Systems (EWS) data.
    • We will do this by focusing on:
      • Implementing tier 1 and 2 attendance incentives
      • Providing attendance information in newsletters
      • Attendance incentives for students
      • Discussing individual attendance information at conferences
      • Implementing tier 1 Social Emotional Learning using Thrive Time during morning meetings
      • Providing tier 2 supports for students identified at risk by SRSSIE data
  • Question/Discussion around should adding a goal or outline about ODR’s
    • Data will support need for counselor and behavior interventionist
    • Monitoring where help is most needed
  • Action Plan:
    • To increase regular attendance by all students and increase student time spent learning in classrooms, Ridgecrest Elementary will hire behavior and SEL support staff, provide regular recognition for students following our school rules and who have great attendance, and provide the opportunity for students identified as high risk for externalizing/internalizing behaviors to receive services from our SEL team and behavior interventionists.
    • We will do this by focusing on:
      • Implementing tier 1 and 2 attendance incentives
      • Providing attendance information in newsletters
      • Attendance incentives for students
      • Discussing individual attendance information at conferences
      • Implementing tier 1 Social Emotional Learning using Thrive Time during morning meetings
      • Providing tier 2 supports for students identified at risk by SRSSIE data

 

  • Review to ensure we are on course with Current Year’s:
    • Able to increase 6+ hours for a support aide to help in kindergarten and first grade with foundational skills
    • Able to have each grade participate in a planning day to address students needs, adjust curriculum to meet standards, and observe teachers 

 

  • Additional school climate updates or principal Report
    • Sara met with the District regarding roof issues.  Ridgecrest’s roof replacement will begin in June and should be completed by August 7.
    • Atrium may have wood replaced. 
    • Asked facilities to replace/repair wood cabinets in the wet areas of the school.  
    • Awarded 20 hours/week support person to work with MLL’s and newcomers.   
    • Need to hire 3 people for next year.
    • STEM Night scheduled for April
    • Planning Time Proposal for teachers was approved by the School Board.

 

  • Next Meeting March 27th
    • Motion to adjourn: Carrie Christensen and Summer Gallegos at 5:23 pm.
