Principal’s Message
Good evening Ridgecrest families,
Ridgecrest has worked hard to make attendance a priority this year because we cannot teach our students if they are not here. We want to say thank you because at this point our attendance is better than it has been in past years!
We celebrate attendance with our students every week at school and will be giving away a scooter to one lucky student soon.
Our school goal is 95% of students at school every day and we have been near that most days so far this year. Let’s keep it going!
Reading Challenge Update
Our students are doing an amazing job reading and logging their minutes in Beanstack. We have reached Trailblazer status in the Road to Success reading challenge because we have 80% of our students participating. We would love to reach 100%. Here are a few other stats for you to celebrate with your child:
As a school, we have read 78,903 total minutes so far. Our goal is One Million Minutes read and we are off to a great start. Class Rankings for last week:
1st Place: Zhao with 7,983 minutes
2nd Place: Lecker with 6,261 minutes
3rd Place: Hubley with 6,096 minutes
As a reminder, Road to Success provides prizes for students as they reach the following reading milestones:
80 minutes = Prize 1600 minutes = Prize 21,200 minutes = Prize 31,800 minutes = Entry into Bike Giveaway
*Every additional 500 minutes is an additional entry into the bike giveaway*
**Entries are capped at 12,300 minutes **
Halloween
Halloween is on Thursday. We will be holding our annual Halloween Parade as well as our classroom parties. The parade will start at 9:00 inside and we will proceed outside to the parade route by 9:15. It looks to be a brisk morning. Please consider sending layers for your child to wear since we will be outside. Parents are encouraged to line the parade route and cheer us on. The parade route is attached below.
Dress code still applies on Halloween, so please help your child to pick an appropriate costume. Here are the guidelines from our district policy:
- No face masks or full face paint. We need to be able to visually identify students in costumes.
- Costumes that are provocative, revealing, sexual in nature or employ questionable props are not permitted.
- Costumes that depict violence, alcohol, or drugs are not permitted. Fake (or real) weapons are not permitted.
- Costumes that can be offensive or perpetuate a stereotype of someone’s culture, gender, heritage or religion are not permitted.
- Costumes should not hinder your ability to participate in classes
- Costumes should include shoes
- Costumes and dressing up is optional
Classroom Parties: Please remember that all volunteers must be cleared through the district before they can help with class parties or any other school activity. So, if you have not signed up to be a volunteer through volunteer.canyonsdistrict.org this year, and are planning to help with classroom parties, please do this today.
Veterans Day Assembly
Ridgecrest is proud to honor those in our community who have served in the Armed Forces. We would like to invite our students to submit Honor Wall forms to be displayed for their loved ones, friends, and neighbors that have served our country (living or deceased), and invite them to join us for a reception and assembly to honor them for their service on Friday, Nov. 8th.Information was sent home Friday, or please see the attached flier and form. Submit your Honor Wall forms for display and RSVPs for the Assembly by Nov 6th.
We are excited to continue this tradition of gratitude for those who serve our great nation.
Ridgecrest Food Drive
Our annual food drive will be held November 4th-8th. During this time we are asking for unopened, non-perishable, non-expired food item donations. If your family is able to share, please send these items with your child during this time. All food collected will be donated to families in need within our Ridgecrest Community.
If your family would like to receive one of our care packages, please complete this Food Drive Form.
We will have care packages ready to be picked up on November 11th, between 7:30 – 8:30 AM OR from 4:00 – 5:00 PM. Any care packages, not picked up by the end of this day will then be donated to the Brighton High School food pantry.

STEM Night
We are excited to announce the return of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Night happening on November 19th, 2023 at Ridgecrest! Our STEM teacher, Alicia Freeman, and a team of volunteers will be facilitating a large variety of STEM activities that are different from last year. We know this will be a fun evening full of STEM exploration for our students and their families.
To do our best to have enough activities for everyone, we are holding 2 sessions on this night. Food will not be provided during this event.
- 5:30-6:30pm, Session 1 – for students whose last name starts with A-M
- 6:45-7:45pm, Session 2 – for studentswhose last name starts with N-Z
We also need volunteers to help facilitate these activities. These activities are all premade and provided ready to go for us. All we need is for people to be willing to read instructions prior to the event, help set up, answer questions, give helpful hints when needed, and clean up their station when it’s over. If you are willing to help us with this event, please sign up at this link:https://forms.gle/dTbKEML5Dj98Fxz58
STEAM Squad members will be able, and encouraged, to help with the event as well.
Thank you for your help and support!
