Ridgecrest Roar – May 15, 2022

RIDGECREST ROAR              May 15th, 2022

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

This past week was busy but so much fun! It was wonderful to see so many of you at our Community Night. I was so proud of our children and the talents they had on display for us all. Our Student Council members created and performed a skit about kindness during an assembly on Friday, and our Ridgecrest Runners were able to celebrate the completion of another marathon run 1 mile at a time. Thank you to the dedicated individuals who made all these fun events possible.

School Information

Ridgecrest is Hiring! – We have two positions open on our staff next year. We are looking for a behavior assistant and a reading interventionist. If you or someone you know is great at working with kids and wants to join a wonderful team please apply here: https://jobs.canyonsdistrict.org/human-resources/index.cfm#!/jobs/44

Full Day Kindergarten – The announcement went out last week that Ridgecrest will have full day kindergarten available for every incoming kindergartener next school year. We heard from many of you who are very excited about this change, and there were many questions! I appreciate all of you who reached out to discuss this and provide your feedback. Thank you for staying in communication with us as we make this shift. There is more information coming.

Pedestrian Safety– We need everyone’s help to keep our children safe. We are still seeing children who are walking through the parking lots by themselves. Our children are too young to do this safely by themselves and are too small to always be seen by drivers. Parents, if you choose not to use our drive thru lanes, then you must park and escort your children to safety. I know safety is something we all take seriously. Thank you.

Summer Lunch Program – Did you know that when school is out for summer, Canyons District students can still get school breakfast and lunch? In fact, all children 18 years and younger are eligible to receive nutritional meals free of charge through Canyons’ federally-approved Summer Food Service Program. The 2022 Summer Food program will begin on June 1 and run through July 29. Unlike the pandemic, when sack meals were distributed curbside, these meals will be served inside school cafeterias at the following four, centrally-located sites. At all sites, Monday through Friday, breakfast will be served from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. and lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will be no meal service on July 4 and July 25 when Canyons schools close in observance of national and state holidays.

Summer Activity Option – During the summer, the kids are home, they may even get bored….Solution? Get creative! Reflections art contest begins in the fall soon after school starts, so why not start now?! Students reflect on next year’s theme “Show Your Voice” and create visual art, choreograph a dance, compose a musical piece, take a photo, film a video, or write a story! Happy Summer!
