RIDGECREST ROAR – May 12, 2024

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

This past week was Teacher Appreciation week. Words can not express how grateful our Ridgecrest community is for the outpouring of gratitude and love that were given to our teachers and staff. We are beyond grateful and are appreciative to work with such a great community of people. Thank you!

School Information.

Million Minute Reading Challenge – We did it! Our students have collectively read 1,006,900 minutes this year. We are seeing the benefits of all this reading in the huge progress our students have made with their reading skills this year. Thank you for your support at home so we could achieve this lofty goal! We will be celebrating with our students at an assembly coming up soon.

Ridgecrest Readers: Staff Recommendations –

I always loved this series of books when I was in elementary school. The books were written so that you could have up to like 40 different adventures depending on the ending you chose, then when you got done with that adventure you could start the book over and pick a different ending. It kept the reading very exciting and intriguing to see how many different adventures you could have with the same book.

  • Darci Yardley, Lunch Manager

I had the best time listening to all the fun stories the librarian would read aloud to us at school. One book series I loved was The Berenstain Bears written by Stan and Jan Berenstain. These picture books are full of adventures, mishaps and accomplishments which teach about moral and/or safety lessons. Perfect for beginner readers, these beginner books are sure to capture the interests of any reader for all ages.

  • Michelle Whitehorse, Behavior Assistant

Success for Chess Club – Ridgecrest participated in the PowerChess State Tournament this past Saturday with great success! Beckham Rawle won first place in the K-1 section and Bronson Karr won first place in the K-6 section. The other team members were Cole List, Reid List, Cooper Phillips, and Jack Plétain. All participant points combined together to give Ridgecrest the overall first place win in the team event. The school will proudly be displaying a trophy that is taller than many of our students. Great job Chess Club!

Information previously shared:

Summer Camp – Looking for summer camp opportunities? A flier is attached with information about offerings available through Canyons School District.

Book Blitz Jr – Our school participated in the Book Blitz Jr. Program this year as an extracurricular opportunity for our 3-5th grade students. Our students had so much fun and didn’t even realize how much they were also learning!! We will be offering this opportunity for next year’s 3-5 grade students and want to get a head start. Attached is the list of books that students will read as part of this program. Take a look and start reading!

From the PTA:

Hello PTA families! We had so much fun celebrating our teachers and staff this last week for teacher appreciation. We are so grateful for all the hard work and love that the staff shows to our students.

Needs Assessment- We have a survey to fill out for all the parents and staff. This survey will let the PTA know the activities you like and any suggestions that you might have for next school year’s programs. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScbhgg4fDqNYe9ZIXqNXY-sEMztj1uD9qbcF0567etSPV0y6A/viewform

Community Night- This week is our last community engagement event. We are teaming up with Zao and part of the proceeds go to supporting the PTA. It is this Tuesday May 14th all day!
