RIDGECREST ROAR March 5, 2023
Good evening Ridgecrest families,
Thank you for taking the time to come visit with your child’s teachers this week! We value the chance to talk face to face with you as we all work together to help make our children’s educational experience the best it can be.
We also are very grateful to all the parents who helped to provide meals, and our amazing PTA who coordinated these efforts, to feed our staff as they worked long hours this past week for Parent Teacher Conferences. Thank you!
Our attendance was wonderful again this past week with an average of 94% of students on time and present each day. Attendance is a strong predictor of future academic success. Children who miss fewer than 3 days each trimester are generally more academically successful long term. Please help your child to continue the healthy habit of attending school each day. It makes a difference.
School Information:
Remote-Learning Day – Tomorrow, will be a Remote-Learning Day for all Canyons District students. While no new instruction will be provided online tomorrow, students have been provided remote-learning activities and teachers will be available to meet with students virtually between 10 a.m. and noon. More information will be provided by your child’s teacher.
Kindergarten Orientation – We are getting excited to welcome our newest Tigers! If you have a child who will be joining us for kindergarten next year, or if you know someone who does, please spread the message. We will be holding our Kindergarten Orientation at 2 PM on March 24th in our school gym.
Canyons Film Festival – The 13th Annual Canyons Film Festival is happening on April 27th, 2023. Our students have been learning filmmaking, particularly stop motion animation, in our STEM booster groups. They are excited and many want to participate but may need adult help submitting their entries. Entries are due April 11th, 2023.
Here is a link for information on how to submit, and other information regarding rules and categories.

- Stop Motion Studio Pro
- iMovie
- Movie Mates

PTA News:
Hi Ridgecrest Families!
Our next Community Partnership Night is this Wednesday 3/8/2023 with Cafe Rio! This is an all-day opportunity to support our school. Make sure to show the attached Flier at checkout so that they know you are there to support Ridgecrest!
Thank you to all who helped with the Book Fair! From the volunteers who ran the registers, those who helped set up and take down, from those who purchased items and those who donated to All for Books (funds that come right back to our school for books), you made the Book Fair a success and we couldn’t do it without you!
A big THANK YOU to those who donated items for our teacher meals! The teachers were provided with delicious meals for the two evenings that they had to stay late at the school for Parent Teacher Conferences.
Our Talent Show Preview is this week! Did you know that the Talent Show also takes art submissions? 2D and 3D art submissions are welcome! The Talent Show preview is the opportunity for your student to show their talent to be in the talent show. Our previews will be on Tuesday, March 7th and Thursday, March 9th. The preview will be before school from 8-8:40am and after school from 3:20-4pm. Please note, these are the only times for us to preview the entries for the Talent Show. No late entries will be accepted.
Our Talent Show will be on March 17th at 6:30pm at Butler Middle School.
Make sure to save the date! Our next PTA meeting is on Monday, March 13th, at noon. We need your attendance. We will be voting in our new PTA Board for next school year, and we need your vote. The nominees were sent out to the PTA membership and are also posted on our social media platforms. We are unable to vote unless we have enough PTA members there.
It’s not too late to become a PTA member for this school year. Your PTA membership benefits us in many ways. Whether you would like to become more involved in volunteering, or if you don’t have the time or want to volunteer but just want to support our school, your PTA membership is beneficial to our school and students. https://ridgecrest.memberhub.com/store?limit=21&live=true
We hope you have an amazing week,
Your Ridgecrest Elementary PTA 2022-23 Board
Information previously shared that still might be helpful:
Permits Update – Just a reminder that all students who attend Ridgecrest on permit in kindergarten must reapply for a permit to the school for the following year if they are not in the DLI program. Permits do not roll over from kindergarten to first grade. Permits do roll over from first through fifth grades as long as space continues to be available. Please visit permits.canyonsdistrict.org to complete a permit for next year.
Sweepers – Ridgecrest is looking to hire some sweepers to help clean our building for 2 hours in the afternoons each day. We have several open positions with a starting wage of $10.73 / hr. Applications are available in our front office.
