Read-a-Thon Opportunity Chance to Win a $1,000 Scholarship
Ridgecrest Elementary is thrilled to join the Road to Success annual my529 Read-a-Thon for K-6 students, running from April 1st to May 1st! Thanks to my529’s generous sponsorship, one top-reading student from our district will win a $1,000 scholarship account.
The Read-a-Thon will take place on Beanstack, so simply continue logging your child’s reading minutes.
At the end of the contest, the top reader from each participating school will enter a district-wide drawing, where one lucky student will be randomly selected.
Happy Reading!
Multicultural Week
During the week of March 31-April 4th we will be celebrating Multicultural Week. Our intent is to celebrate the heritage and experiences from all people in our Ridgecrest community.
We will have a theme each day with some small activities built into our week for our students to choose to participate in. Our week will culminate with our annual Day of Play on April 4th.
Please remind your child to return their My Heritage page, if they are choosing to participate, by next Friday.
Canyons Film Festival
For the past 2 months in STEM, students have been collecting ideas and learning different ways to create their own videos for the upcoming district film festival! To be able to submit their videos, they will need to download their creation to their device, then follow the steps on the district website to submit it here. They could also submit projects by visiting this website: https://www.canyonsdistrict.org/filmfestival/Most students will need adult help to get their video submitted. The event categories, rules, and time limits are on the website as well and students may enter in more than one category. Here are some apps the students could use to create a video:Scratch or Scratch Jr.Koma KomaStop Motion StudioiMovieCapCutFlipaClip
🏆 Winners in each category will receive a trophy to proudly display at home or school! Winners will also have the chance to win some cool filmmaking gear, from camera equipment to editing software! These prizes will help launch your next masterpiece!
Submissions are due by April 18th, and the award festival is on May 7th. Student’s videos will also be shown in STEM after the festival. We look forward to seeing all the entries! For more information or questions, please contact our STEM teacher @ Alicia.freeman@canyonsdistrict.org
