Principal’s Message
Good evening Ridgecrest families,
Welcome to a new year! I hope the winter break has been a wonderful chance for everyone to spend time with loved ones in whatever way you enjoy together.
We are so excited to see your children back at Ridgecrest tomorrow, January 6th, 2025. This week we will be reviewing our school rules and expectations with our students to help everyone get back in the routines of learning. In New Year’s fashion we will also take some time to reflect on the first half of our school year and set goals about how we would like the next half to be.
Ridgecrest is Hiring!
We have an open position in our school. We are hiring an individual to assist our students during lunch time and to support small groups in various classes through the day. Clothing Donations
Thank you to everyone who helped our Student Council to provide needed winter items to other Canyon’s families. All donations were delivered to the Canyons Resource Closet before the holiday break.
We are so grateful for the willingness of our community to make this service project successful.
Million Minute Reading Challenge
We are right on track toward meeting our Million Minute Reading goal. We ended December with a total of 283,719 total minutes read this year. We continue to have 93% of our students logging their minutes regularly on Beanstack!
Thank you for your help prioritizing reading as an important part of every day!
The Spelling Bee is Coming!
Students will participate in their classroom Spelling Bees on Monday, January 13th. Grade level spelling lists were sent home before the holiday break. The classroom Spelling Bee is an event not attended by parents or spectators.
Our School Bee will be Monday, February 10th. The top three students of each class in each grade will be able to participate in the school Spelling Bee.
Parents of these students will be notified with further information after January 13th. Attached to the Roar is a full Spelling Bee list for those who want to study beyond their grade list. During the competition, we start with grade level words and then quickly progress through higher level words.
A Sign-Up Genius link is attached for those who want to volunteer to help facilitate the classroom Spelling Bees on January 13th. We can’t do it with out volunteers. Good luck and happy spelling!

Multicultural Week
We are excited to announce a new Ridgecrest Event. Our PTA will be helping to facilitate a Multicultural Week from March 31st-April 4th. We are currently looking for individuals who would like to help us plan this event. Our goal is to celebrate the variety of cultures at Ridgecrest and give our students an opportunity to share their heritage, stories, and traditions, with their peers. Through sharing, we hope to give the students insight into the richness of culture around them. We hope this will be a healthy way for our students to get to know and understand each other better. If you have ideas, we would love to have you on our team to make this happen for our Ridgecrest students and community. Please email ridgecrest1pta@gmail.com if interested.
Art Haven – After School Program
Art Haven is an after school art program that is available at Ridgecrest periodically throughout the school year. The next session starts on 1/28/25 and continues for 7 weeks.
This program is available for all children who are in kindergarten through 5th grade. If you would like more information, please see the attached flier. Sign up soon to save your spot.
Lost and Found
We have many nice winter coats and other items in our lost and found. Please remind your child to check the lost and found for their missing items. Everything left on Friday, January 10th, will be donated.

Ridgecrest Chinese New Year Retail
As many of you know our CNY Celebration is coming up. We have some amazing retail for you to purchase for you and or your students. We are taking orders through Sunday January 12th, it will come fast so order yours now so they can be here and ready for the Ridgecrest Chinese New Year Celebration. Here is the link:

We are seeking interested parents to be on the Ridgecrest PTA Board for next year 2025/2026. It is a great way to be involved, get to know and advocate for our students.
