Ridgecrest Roar 1.15.23

RIDGECREST ROAR   January 15, 2023

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

Congratulations to our fantastic spellers! Our top three classroom spelling bee winners will compete in the school-wide spelling bee on January 23rd.

As a reminder, the school is closed tomorrow, January 16th, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

School Information

Teacher of the Year- It is time once again to recognize the teachers at Ridgecrest who make such a difference in the lives of our students through the Teacher of the Year nomination process. Please click on the link below to nominate the teachers who have made a difference to your child this year. You can fill out the link multiple times if you are interested in nominating more than one teacher.  More information about this process can be found here, and the nomination form is found here.

Letters to Cottonwood Heights City – Many Ridgecrest students will be participating in a writing project with Cottonwood Heights City in January 2023. These letters will be displayed in Cottonwood Heights City Hall during the month of February. Each letter displayed will have the child’s name posted next to it. You have the choice as parents/guardians to opt your child out of having your child’s letter displayed. All student work will be displayed unless a parent/guardian chooses to opt-out by using this form:  https://forms.gle/wne4GnVJhCECbUWZA.

If you would like your child’s letter to be displayed, DO NOT complete this form. No further action is needed. If you have questions, please contact Sara Allen at (801) 826-9250.

Parking Lot – We are so grateful to all of you who are making our new traffic flow pattern work. We know change is sometimes hard, but we believe these changes make our drop off area more safe. As a reminder, the tips below will help everyone’s drop off and pick-up be smoother.

  1. All cars merge into one lane as they approach the curb.
  2. Pull forward as far as possible and use the entire length of the curb for drop off. All cars behind you will be stopped until you move forward.
  3. We need all students ready to exit their car BEFORE you get to the drop off curb.
  4. The outer lane will be used for you to pull out AFTER your child exits the car.
  5. There will be one lane exiting the drop off area.
  6. Our exit requires right turns only (onto 7200 S) during drop off and pick up times. This is required to keep our traffic flow moving. Please be courteous to everyone waiting behind you.

Thank you to the Cottonwood Heights Police Department who have been present to help us make our parking lot area more safe.

PTA News:

Hi Ridgecrest Families!

We are having a special Dads and Donuts event on the morning of January 25th. Dads, grandpas, uncles, and male members of our community are invited to attend. We would love to see more male involvement and support at our school. Come and learn what you can do to help, or just come and enjoy a donut with your student. We’d love to see you there!

Our Chinese New Year Celebration is coming up on February 2nd from 6-8pm. This is a fun tradition at our school, and you are invited!

A special thank you to Nathan Pugh who generously volunteered to head our Chess Champs. Keep your eye out for more information to come.

Our next Community Partnership Night is on February 7th at Tokyo Teriyaki from 3:30-8:30pm.
