Ridgecrest Roar – December 3

RIDGECREST ROAR           December 3, 2023

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

It was good to be back together after the Thanksgiving Break. And in the spirit of thankfulness, our PTA is hosting a wonderful event during the next couple of weeks that encourages us all to “Pass Thanks Around”. This past Wednesday, our students wrote notes to teachers and staff who make a difference for them. They shared very sweet messages and helped us spread some joy and kindness throughout our building. It made for a great week at Ridgecrest. You have spectacular children you share with us each day!

School Information

Million Minutes Reading Challenge – Our first monthly reading calendars were due last Friday. However, it isn’t too late to return yours! We will be counting the minutes read and will give you an update next week. This week we want to highlight a couple more free reading websites.

  • The first one is Book Builder .The book builder feature allows you to insert student names into a book and print a customized book for students to keep.  This resource is best for early readers and those students learning English as a second language.

  • Another website with free access to books is Magic Keys . This site provides books for all ages. The text appears and your child reads it. It is as simple as that.

Attendance – Our attendance started off low this week, but we rebounded to 96% of students in attendance on Friday! Our school goal is 95% and we have been doing really well so far this year staying close to that mark! We have many incentives going on to encourage students to get to school on time each day. Recently, we did a drawing and gave away a scooter to one lucky student who had great attendance so far. We will be giving away scooters two more times this year for great attendance.. Thank you for your help making attendance at school an important part of your family routines.

Lost and Found – Our lost and found is full again. We are asking students to look through it to find their missing items. What is left will be donated after school on Dec. 7th.

From the PTA:

Hello PTA families! This week we were able to have the kids write thank you notes to their teachers or staff members. It was so fun for them to show appreciation for those who work so hard in the school. Next week they will be talking during the week about being thankful for friends.

Spelling Bee – It’s time for the spelling bee! We are so excited to announce the dates for our upcoming class, and school spelling bee. Students will participate in their classroom spelling bees on Monday January 8th. Our school bee will be Monday January 29th. Grade level spelling lists went home last week. Below is a link with the complete list of words. Please help your student by going over their lists. Christmas break is a great time to start! A sign up link  will go out in two weeks for those who want to volunteer to help in the classroom for grade level bees. Good luck!

Spelling Bee List 23-24

We have Tiger Pride still going on every Friday morning. So if your student wears a school shirt or school colors they receive a small treat! (Special clothing for class parties also counts i.e pajamas)

Be on the lookout for holiday party sign ups from room parents. Reminder that if you want to volunteer in the classroom you need to be registered through the district. Please go to https://volunteer.canyonsdistrict.org/volunteersystem/#!/application/volunteer

Our next PTA meeting will be Monday, December 11th at noon in the library conference room.

Thanks,

Suzy Doom

PTA President
