Ridgecrest Roar – December 10, 2023

RIDGECREST ROAR           December 10, 2023

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

December is going so fast! We had our choir performance this past week. We are so fortunate to have the Utah Music Educator of the Year as our choir teacher. Congratulations to Sherise Longhurst for this honor, and congratulations to our choir for a wonderful performance.

School Information

Million Minutes Reading Challenge – The first month of our reading challenge is past and we are excited to say that Ridgecrest tigers read 128,140 minutes in November! This is a great start. We will need everyone reading if we are going to meet our goal of 1 million minutes. You should have your December calendar to be checking off. Let’s do our best to beat November’s total. We can do this Ridgecrest!

New World Record Set – 746,698 stackers is the new STACK UP! World Record. Our Ridgecrest Students participated in an event the week of November 13th  to help set a new WSSA World Record for the “Most People Sport Stacking at Multiple Locations”. See the link below for more information: thewssa.com/stackup/2023/the_sport/?rid=41249. Congratulations Tigers!

Drop Off and Pick Up – We had some dangerous moments in the parking lot this past week during drop off and pick up with adults driving too fast, not following the rules, and putting students, staff, and other cars at risk. Please remember to go slow and be patient. We are all responsible for the safety of children during drop off and pick up and we all have places to be after this time. The safety of our children is dependent on all of us doing our part to follow the procedures we have outlined. As a reminder, I have attached the drop off procedures for your review.

Holiday Sing Along with all students and families – Ridgecrest has a tradition of performing a holiday sing along. Each grade level has learned a winter holiday song during their choir class. We will have the Holiday Sing Along with parents on Dec. 18th in our gym. We hope you can join us!

  • K-2 grade classes will sing at 9:00 AM

  • 3-5 grade classes will sing at 9:30 AM

Spelling Bee – It’s time for the spelling bee! We are so excited to announce the dates for our upcoming class, and school spelling bee. Students will participate in their classroom spelling bees on Monday January 8th. Our school bee will be Monday January 29th. Grade level spelling lists went home last week. Below is a link with the complete list of words. Please help your student by going over their lists. Christmas break is a great time to start! A sign up link  will go out in two weeks for those who want to volunteer to help in the classroom for grade level bees. Good luck!

From the PTA:

This week we have a community night scheduled with Cafe Rio. The event goes ALL DAY so stop in for lunch or dinner and support our PTA. Be on the lookout for a flier to be sent home this week.

We are finishing up our Passing Thanks Around. The kids will have the opportunity to write a thank you note to a family member if they want. This has been so fun for the kids to take a minute and thank people in their lives!

Be on the lookout for holiday party sign ups from room parents. Reminder that if you want to volunteer in the classroom you need to be registered through the district. Please go to https://volunteer.canyonsdistrict.org/volunteersystem/#!/application/volunteer

Our next PTA meeting will be tomorrow, Monday December 11th at Noon in the library conference room. We will be voting in the nominating committee that will be looking for parents that want to serve in the vacant spots on the board next school year.

Thanks,

Suzy Doom

PTA President
