Principal’s Message:
Good evening Ridgecrest families,
It was wonderful to see so many of you as you participated in conferences with your children’s teachers. It takes a team to do great things for kids and we are grateful you are part of our team at Ridgecrest.
I also want to take a moment to recognize our fantastic attendance. Our school goal is to reach 95% attendance as a daily average. Showing up each day is the first step to a great education because we can’t teach your children if they aren’t here. The past few weeks, we have met or exceeded our goal! This is excellent. Thank you for making attendance a priority.
Book Blitz Jr. Is Coming
Ridgecrest 3rd–5th graders are invited to join Book Blitz Jr., a fun, after-school literacy program where students read books from a curated list, earn incentives, and team up for a Jeopardy-style showdown in March! The winning team from the 4th–5th graders advance to the district competition on April 1 (3rd graders have a school competition, but no district competition). Last year, Ridgecrest Elementary tied for first place in the district competition and we know our students have the ability to take home the top prize again! We also really need parent Team Coaches – please consider volunteering (district volunteer application linked here)!
Parent-Student Kickoff Meeting: Thurs., Oct. 16, 3:30–4:00 p.m.Regular Meetings: Every other Thurs., 3:30–4:00 p.m., starting Nov. 6

Million Minute Reading Challenge
Our school will be hosting a Million Minute Reading Challenge again this year and will continue to partner with Road to Success and Beanstack as a way to track our reading progress.
Ridgecrest and Road to Success will be hosting various challenges throughout the school year to help motivate students to read at least 20 minutes each day. Students will log their minutes using Beanstack through their Class Link accounts and will then be eligible to win prizes throughout the school year. One lucky winner will win a bike at the end of the year.
The Road to Success Challenge officially starts on October 1st. We will update you regularly on the progress we make toward reading One Million Minutes as a school this year. Please see the attached flier for more information.
DLI Intent to Continue
The Intent to Continue process for 5th grade students who plan to continue in the Dual Language Program in Middle School has begun. This process helps us to plan and staff appropriately to support this program as children move between school levels.
For details about secondary DLI pathways, high school bridge courses, and the Intent to Continue process, please click here: Intent to Continue.
A flier with more information is also attached.
Morning Drop Off
Adult supervision is not available before school until 8:25 AM. We are experiencing an increasing number of students who are being dropped off too early which is not safe.
As a reminder:
Children cannot be left at the school before 8:25 AM because they will not be supervised. The only exceptions are for students who are part of a designated activity with an adult in the building or if they eat breakfast starting at 8:15 AM.
From Our PTA
Hello Ridgecrest Families,
Thank you to each volunteer who helped this week with the Book Fair, meals for our teachers, and Books and Breakfast. We appreciate all those who attended Book Fair and Books and Breakfast. Purchasing items from the Book Fair earns the school Scholastic Bucks that can be used for books, reusable bags available at the Book Fair, prizes, as well as many other items.
Thursday 9/25 all students received a popsicle at the end of the day as a celebration for raising $22,500. We saw many of you at Classic Skating Thursday night to celebrate raising $20,000. We hope you all had a great time! We are so grateful for each participant in the fundraiser.
Please consider joining PTA if you haven’t yet this year. Volunteering is NOT required to be a PTA member. Spirit Wear orders close Monday, Oct. 6th. Join PTA/order spirit wear here: https://ridgecrest.givebacks.com/shop.
Looking ahead: Tuesday, October 7th we have a Community Picnic at Antczak Park from 5-8pm. It will be in conjunction with our Zupa’s night at the Ft. Union location running from 4-9pm. You can mention Ridgecrest in person or turn on the fundraiser switch at online checkout. We hope you will bring dinner to Antczak Park to eat, visit, and play games together. We can’t wait to see you there!
Tiger Pride will begin Friday October 10th. Tiger Pride is when students wear their Fun Run shirt or other school shirt/school colors on Fridays to earn a little treat.
Sincerely,
Carrie Christensen
