Ridgecrest Roar – January 26, 2025

Principal’s Message

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

We have some really fun community based events coming up soon. 6th Grade Orientation nights, Teacher of the Year Nominations, Valentine’s Day parties, our Chinese New Year Celebration, and our school spelling bee, are all happening soon. These events are a great opportunity to be part of our Ridgecrest community and to support extra activities that enrich the lives of our children. Please consider joining us!

Teacher of the Year

It is time once again to recognize the teachers at Ridgecrest who make such a difference in the lives of your children through the Teacher of the Year nomination process. Please click on the link below to nominate the teachers who have mattered to you this year. You can fill out the link multiple times if you are interested in nominating more than one teacher. More information about the selection process, and the nomination form, are found here. We will be accepting nominations through February 2nd.

Drama Program

We are thrilled to announce that a new Drama program will be starting at Ridgecrest for our 4th and 5th grade students! The first meeting will take place on February 4th, where we will introduce the program and provide important information about auditions. Parents are invited to attend this first meeting.

Practices will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school in the gym. We hope to see you on February 4th where we will share more information.

All students will be cast in the production, as auditions are simply to determine roles. Students interested in solo performances can audition individually, while those who prefer to be part of an ensemble can audition in groups of three. The song and reading material will be taught to all students in advance, so no preparation is necessary for the auditions. Ms. Adamson and Ms. Gracie will be leading this program, and they are eager to share their passion for drama with our students. We can’t wait to see the talent that Ridgecrest has to offer! If your child is interested please fill out the following form.

STEAM Squad Session 2

4th and 5th grade students!! We are excited for the second session of STEAM Squad to start the second week of February! This session focuses on a hands-on approach to coding. Some of the activities that we’ll be exploring are: Dashbots,Virtual Reality, Merge Cubes, Intellino Trains, Strawbees

Any 4th or 5th grade student that would like to join the Squad will need to apply online. The link will open January 24th and will close January 28th. You can apply here:   Application Link

Each student will be assigned to attend either Monday or Wednesday mornings for 8 weeks. Other school activities are coordinated to minimize overlap with us on both days. Just put in your application if you’re already attending instrument ensemble Mondays, or chess club Wednesdays, and you’ll be assigned to the preferred day. Students are allowed to leave for student counsel, safety patrol, and school breakfast as needed.

It’s the Year of the Snake! Join us in shedding the old and embracing the new by attending Canyons District’s Lunar New Year Celebration Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025. Students and their families from across the District are invited for an evening of delicious food, fun activities, and inspiring student performances. The event will be held at 6 p.m. in the Commons at Corner Canyon High School (12943 S. 700 East, Draper).

This celebration is separate from our Ridgecrest celebration happening on February 6th at Butler Middle School. More information about our Ridgecrest celebration is in the PTA information below and attached in a flier to this message. We would love to see you at both celebrations.

Lunch Balances

There was a glitch in the notification service about low lunch balances recently that resulted in families not receiving notice when their lunch money ran out. This has been fixed and we apologize if this caused any problems for your family.

Please know, we will never deny food to a child but additions to a lunch like purchasing just milk to add to a home lunch, is not allowed if a lunch account does not have funds. We would love to help you clear up any confusion around your lunch accounts. Please contact our Nutrition Services if we can be of service at 801 826-5381 or visit their website at this link.
