Ridgecrest Roar – September 29, 2024

Principal’s Message

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

We are so grateful to our community for your efforts to help us with our fundraiser. Every donation from 1 cent on up makes a difference.

We reached our participation goal as a school so each child received the card game Sabobatage and gift certificate to Stirs. These items were generously donated to our school. Please look for these in your child’s backpack. Way to go Tigers!

I also want to take a moment to recognize our fantastic attendance. Our school goal is to reach 95% attendance as a daily average. Showing up each day is the first step to a great education. We can’t teach your children if they aren’t at school. This past week, we averaged 94% attendance! Thank you for making attendance a priority.

Thrive Time

Our focus with Thrive Time lessons this week is being a supportive friend and learning about how to work together as a team. We will teach about the importance of supporting each other and communicating with respect. These skills help our children in every area of their lives.

Million Minute Reading Challenge

Our school will be hosting a Million Minute Reading Challenge again this year. However, we are partnering with Road to Success to try and make tracking student reading minutes more simple.

Ridgecrest and Road to Success will be hosting various challenges throughout the school year to help motivate students to read 20 minutes each day. Students will log their minutes using Beanstack through their Clever accounts and will then be eligible to win prizes throughout the school year. One lucky winner will win a bike at the end of the year.

Our first challenge started the beginning of September and was good practice for students learning our new system. To date we have:

  • 40,585 minutes read!
  • 237 active students on Beanstack
  • 1st Place Class: Hubley Homeroom
  • 2nd Place Class: Zhao Homeroom
  • 3rd Place Class: Chen Homeroom

The official Road to Success Challenge starts tomorrow! We will update you regularly on the progress we make toward reading One Million Minutes as a school this year. Please see the attached flier for more information.

DLI Lottery For 2025-2026 Opens Tomorrow!

Are you, or someone you know, interested in enrolling your child in our Chinese Dual Language Program for the 2025-2026 school year, but would like more information? An informational meeting for parents will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Canyons Center at the Canyons District Office, 9361 S. 300 East in Sandy.

The window to apply to enroll your child in Dual-Immersion will be open Monday, Sept. 29th through Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2024. A lottery will be held to determine entrance into the programs if the number of applicants exceeds the seats available per entering class. Information about CSD’s immersion programs and the application process can be found at canyonsdistrict.org.

Drop Off and Pick Up

Just a reminder:

When using our drive through lane and our parking lot, left hand turns are not allowed during drop off and pick up time. Traffic creates a circle that is unable to move if cars turn left. Please be respectful of everyone trying to pick up their children in a timely manner and turn right as you leave our parking lot.
