RIDGECREST ROAR September 25, 2022
Good evening Ridgecrest families,
It is finally cooling down and starting to feel like fall. Each year, this is the time when it always feels like school is really moving to me. We have learned our routines and procedures and student learning takes off!
As the weather changes please remember a couple of things. First, students are unsupervised outside until 8:30. Please don’t drop off or send your children before that. The only exception is for students who are eating breakfast. They may enter the second-grade doors at 8:15. Second, students line up outside except for days with extreme weather, so please help to make sure they are dressed appropriately. We appreciate your help with this.
School Information
Parent Teacher Conferences – We look forward to seeing you during Parent Teacher Conferences this week. If you are unsure of the date and time for your meeting, please contact your child’s teacher.
Book Fair – Remember, we also have the Book Fair happening this week in our gym. Please stop by and take a look. The Book Fair benefits our school and provides books for our children. More information is attached.
Books and Breakfast – This was formerly known as Grandparents Lunch, but this event has changed. Our wonderful PTA is facilitating an opportunity for you to bring breakfast to enjoy with your child before school starts and check out the Book Fair. To help with congestion, we will follow the schedule below:
- Wed. 9/28, 8:00 – 8:40 AM Families of students with a last name that starts with an A – L
- Thur. 9/29, 8:00 – 8:40 AM Families of students with a last name that starts with an M-Z
Doors will open at 8:00 AM for the Book Fair and 8:15 AM for breakfast. Please note, breakfast is not provided. This is a chance to bring breakfast with you to enjoy with your child. Breakfast is still available for current Ridgecrest students to purchase in the cafeteria. We hope to see many of you there. There is a flier attached for this event.
Hiring Sweepers – Ridgecrest is still hiring! Our sweeper positions are part time positions that help clean our school for a couple of hours each day after school. If you or someone you know is interested, please get an application from the Ridgecrest front office.
Ridgecrest Runners – Ridgecrest Runner began on Friday 9/23. This group of students meets at 7:45 AM in the gym every Friday morning. Students run roughly 1 mile per week to finish a Marathon by the end of the year. They also participate in a fitness-based activity every week in addition to the run. If your child would like to participate, please have them come dressed for running. All athletic levels welcome- Positive Attitude Recommended! Zones of Regulation – This week, students will learn about “expected events” and “unexpected events”. Sometimes when unexpected situations come up, it can cause movement to different zones. Students will learn a strategy called “Stop, Think, Go” that will help in unexpected situations. Learn more here: https://canyons.instructure.com/courses/1535293/modules#module_3168589
Reflections Art Contest Call for Entries – It’s time! Reflect on the theme “Show your Voice” and create a:
- Dance Choreography
- Film (child must hold the camera)
- Literature
- Music Composition
- Photography (child must hold the camera)
- Visual Art 2D or 3D
Students can enter more than one category, but only one submission per category. Every entry receives a certificate and a prize! Parents enter information online at utahpta.org/ref or bring art pieces to the main office of the school. Art projects will be placed in the media center for display at the school. Picture Day – Our picture day is on Monday, September 26th. Please remember these must be paid for online or with exact change given to the photographer before the picture. Our front office does not manage the money for pictures taken. There is a digital flier attached that explains how to order and pay for your pictures. Career Day – Do you have a fascinating career or a job that you really love? Then we need your help! Career Day will be held on Friday, October 7th. Participants will speak for 15-minute rotations to 4 different classes. This can include the class of your child. If you are interested, please see the attached flier.
PTA News:
Hi Ridgecrest Families!
Thank you so much for helping us reach our goal! We barely made it, but we are happy to say that on Tuesday (9/27/2022) Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Barton will be transformed into tigers in celebration of reaching our fundraising goal!!! Make sure to keep an eye out for them on the roof as you come to school.
As part of an awesome prize for meeting our goal, Handel’s donated a free ice cream cone for each student! The voucher card was sent home last week with your student.

This past week, we had some fun programs start. Tiger Pride Fridays started. Make sure your child wears school colors (either blue or orange, or both) on Fridays for a small treat! Having your child wear their free Fun Run shirt also counts!
This week is the Book Fair, Parent Teacher Conferences, and Books and Breakfast. We would love your help! Please see the following Sign-Up Genius links below for opportunities to help.
