Ridgecrest Roar – February 20, 2022

RIDGECREST ROAR              Feb. 20th, 2022

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

Last week was a mix of emotions at Ridgecrest. We are all excited for Principal Winfree and her next assignment at Glacier Hills Elementary, but we are also going to miss her very much. I am so grateful for the time I had to work with her, learning all about Ridgecrest and the way we work together as a community. I am honored and excited to be the next principal of this fantastic school and am very appreciative of the warm welcome I have received. Thank you!

School Information

No School – School will not be open on Monday because of Presidents’ Day. We will resume on Tuesday, February 22.

Lost and Found – We have many, many items in our lost and found. We will be reminding students to gather their lost items in the next week and then we will be donating what is left on Friday, Feb. 25th. Please remind your child to pick up their lost items before then.

Shelter in place drill – We hold safety drills every month. February’s shelter in place drill was held on Friday the 18th. During this drill, teaching and learning continues, after the perimeter of the building is secured and everyone is accounted for. This procedure would be used if there was ever a danger outside of the school. Our students, and faculty did a fantastic job.

Drop off procedures – Our School Community Council requested that we review the drop off and pick up procedures with our students and community. Last week, our teachers made videos demonstrating the right way and the wrong way to be safe during drop off and pick up and we will be talking about this in classes this week.

Please remember that students should only get out of the car once you have pulled forward behind the car in front of you and you are next to the red curb. If you choose to drop your child off in the parking lot, then we ask that you park and walk your child to the crossing guard. We have had some close calls and need everyone’s help to keep our children safe.

Parent Teacher Conferences – Parent teacher conferences will be held  Monday, Feb. 28th through Thursday, March 3. These appointments will mostly be virtual, however, if you would prefer to meet in person, we would be happy to arrange that for you. Sign-ups for these meetings will close this Wednesday, Feb. 23rd. The instructions for signing up can be found here.Parent Instructions to Schedule PTC.docx

Miss Allie will be available during Parent Teacher Conferences.  If your student works with her and you would like to schedule a time to meet, please reach out to her directly at: allie.teller@canyonsdistrict.orgor 801-826-9256.

You can also schedule a time to meet with her if you have questions about counseling services for your student.

Zones of Regulation: This week we are learning about expected and unexpected events.  Sometimes, when we experience an unexpected event, we have a big feeling that goes along with it.  When that happens, it’s important to use strategies we’ve learned about like Stop, Think, Go!  Miss Allie is teaching more about this in this week’s video: https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/c3n23gVbQLz

Kindergarten Registration – If you have a child that will be five years of age on or before September 1, 2022, the child qualifies for kindergarten this fall. State law requires that all school districts in Utah abide by the same September 1st entrance cut-off date.

If you have an incoming kindergarten student, please begin the registration process by following the steps outlined on our website. The link can be found here.

Intent to Return – Please help us to better plan for the next school year by completing the Intent to Return form if you are not planning to return to Ridgecrest next year. A paper form was sent home last week. There is also a digital option for you found here. Please complete one or the other.

Champions Day Care Program:  We are pleased to announce that Champions, an after-school daycare program, is using Ridgecrest as a host site through the rest of this school year, and they still have available spots!  Please read the attached letter for more information. Champions Program and Pricing Flyer – Editable – Print.pdf
