Principal updates – School Climate, Concerns, or items for input

  • FYI- Final report for previous year’s plan due to be submitted by the principal on School Performance by the end of January.
  • October and November were challenging months for student discipline. We will discuss this more at the next meeting in February.
  • Online SCC roster updated to reflect vice-chair position.
  • School climate/concerns: PTA has started Chess Champs. The Building Leasership team will begin discussion of next year’s TSSP, at their February meeting.
  • Acadience testing is half done. Lower grades were tested last week. Upper grades will be tested later this week.
    • MATH
      • 2nd grade: Math – goal 80% meet or exceed – Actual: 65% proficiency at recent testing. Everyone is making progress.
      • 1st grade: Math – goal 80% – Actual: 76% proficiency at recent testing.
      • Kindergarten: 80% goal – 79% proficiency at recent testing
    • READING
      • Goal: 70% k-3 students will meet at level or exceed.
      • 2nd grade: 67% proficiency. The numbers show some backsliding since the last testing. Discussion regarding why. Curriculum implementation changes?
      • 1st grade: 64% proficiency. Again, more discussion regarding backsliding.
      • Kindergarten: 82% proficiency.
      • Next meeting we will discuss the upper grade benchmarks.
  • MLLs refer to Multi-Lingual-Learners. Their testing (WETA) is next week. This will help us focus more of our plans to support them. Additional resources are needed to help them more efficiently. We don’t have Title 1 status and don’t have all of the characteristics of a Title 1 school so we can’t count on that type of funding. Currently Interventionists are helping these learners but the principal would like dedicated, certified instructors here to assist them. The funds for these instructors would need to be discussed.

Review current year’s LAND Trust plan, data, expenditures, and review if on course or if amendments are necessary.

  • Will discuss at February meeting.

Any further Discussion of Child Access Routing Plan (SNAP) and adjusted recommendations.

  • Unless there are infrastructure changes the plan doesn’t change much from year to year.
  • A concern about walking to bus routes on roads that do not have a sidewalk are unsafe.
  • Parents interesting in creating a survey to query additional parent concerns for bus routes. A parent-led survey will be discussed at the next PTA meeting on the 13th of February.
  • Some families would like sidewalks put in to create more safety for student getting to buses.
  • The district is finishing discussions on gating the catwalk-sidewalk at the back of the field behind the school. Although we would like the entire school grounds to be enclosed we are grateful for this progress.
  • The City needs to be informed of large bodies of water forming on residential roads due to impeded storm drainage. This is posing a hazard to students who are walking to Ridgecrest and busing to the middle school. Deville Road & 7020/7090; 7200 south & 1500/1700 east.
  • Some parents are asking for a traffic light at Fort Union & Brookhill Dr.
  • The merge on Highland at 7200 south is causing a lot of traffic backup both at drop off and pick up.
  • All of the above concerns are being written into the district’s SNAP online submission form.

Other discussion:

  • Follow up on additional resource officer for elementary schools- The city has agreed to pay for another resource officer. The district would need to vote to fund their portion in order for this to be final.

Next meeting:

  • February 22nd @ 4pm.

Motion to end the meeting @ 5:12. Motion seconded.
