Ridgecrest Roar – October 29, 2023

RIDGECREST ROAR October 29, 2023

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

Ridgecrest has worked to make attendance a priority this year. We have been selecting winners each week to celebrate for great attendance. We will even be giving away a scooter to one lucky student who has been entered into our attendance drawing by being at school on time each day at the end of each quarter this year. So far our attendance has remained close to 93 % of students at school each day. This is pretty good! Our school goal is 95%. Please help us to reach this by making attendance at school an everyday habit that your family celebrates as well!

School Information

Halloween is on Tuesday! – We will be holding our annual Halloween Parade as well as our classroom parties on Tuesday, Oct. 31st. The parade will start at 9:00 inside and we will proceed outside to the parade route by 9:20.  Parents are encouraged to line the parade route and cheer us on.  Our parade route is attached. Thank you to our CHPD for helping to keep us safe on the neighborhood roads.

Please help your child to pick an appropriate costume and keep in mind that we will be outside, early in the morning and the weather prediction is for a clear but cold day. Here are some guidelines:

  • No face masks or full face paint.  We need to be able to visually identify students in costumes.

  • Costumes that are provocative, revealing, sexual in nature or employ questionable props are not permitted.

  • Costumes that depict violence, alcohol, or drugs are not permitted.  Fake (or real) weapons are not permitted.

  • Costumes that can be offensive or perpetuate a stereotype of someone’s culture, gender, heritage or religion are not permitted.

  • Costumes should not hinder your ability to participate in classes

  • Costumes should include shoes

  • Costumes and dressing up is optional

Million Minutes Reading Initiative –  Ridgecrest is excited to start a school-wide reading initiative in November. All grades will be sending communication home, if they haven’t already, about reading at least 20 minutes every day, tracking their reading minutes, and returning their reading calendar to school. We will be tracking all reading minutes as we strive to meet our goal of reading at least ONE MILLION reading minutes as a school. If we can reach this goal, we have some fun activities planned for the whole school, and opportunities for students to earn books of their own along the way. Please watch for more information coming soon.

Lost and Found – Please remind your child to check the lost and found. We are overflowing with jackets, sweatshirts, and coats. We are making announcements to remind students as well. It also helps us if you label coats with your child’s name so that we can help reunite them with lost items.

From the PTA:

Hello PTA families! The final spirit wear order went out last week. So if you placed an order and did not receive it please email me at ridgecrest1pta@gmail.com

The reception will be on November 10th at 8:45 with an assembly to follow at 9:15. Information was sent home Friday or please see the attached flier and form. Submit your Honor Wall forms for display and RSVPs for the Assembly by Nov 8th.
