Ridgecrest Roar – March 26, 2023

RIDGECREST ROAR    March 26, 2023

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

As I am writing this it is actively snowing again. It looks like our March may start and end snowing! I am not complaining because we all know we need the moisture, but our students have had a lot of indoor recess recently and I know we would all like more time outside once the weather warms up some.

We have a fun week ahead of us as we have our last push before Spring Break! We have an assembly this week as well as our Day of Play.

This will be the last newsletter until the end of Spring Break. I wish you all safe travels and/or fun times with your loved ones during the break.

School Information

Day of Play – Our teachers and students will be participating in our Day of Play event on Friday 3/31/23. Students will be signing up for their choice of activities to enjoy and then will have 3 rotations with 3 different teachers and groups of students from 9:30 – 11:00. This is meant to help us build community across grades and classrooms and between students and adults that may not otherwise interact. This is a really fun event for everyone!

Attendance – Our attendance has been amazing! This past week we averaged 95% of our students present and on time at the beginning of the day. Thank you for helping your child to be here so they can get the most out of each day.

Hiring – Ridgecrest is currently hiring a part time classroom assistant to help us for up to 25 hrs per week through the end of this school year. If you are interested in joining the Ridgecrest team, please visit this link for more information and to apply, or reach out to me at sara.allen@canyonsdistrict.org with any questions.

Community Recycling -Ridgecrest has a recycling bin, painted with a tiger, housed on the east side of the building. This is  a resource to our community, so please feel free to use it. The following guidelines need to be followed so we can continue to enjoy this resource:

  • The dumpster is for cardboard and paper only. Please break down all cardboard boxes.  If the box is extremely large, please cut the box in half.

  • The dumpster is NOT for styrofoam, laminated papers of any kind, wrapping paper, construction debris, or garbage

Information previously shared that still might be helpful:

Sweepers – Ridgecrest is looking to hire some sweepers to help clean our building for 2 hours in the afternoons each day. We have several open positions with a starting wage of $10.73 / hr. Applications are available in our front office.

Canyons Film Festival – The 13th Annual Canyons Film Festival is happening on April 27th 2023. Our students have been learning filmmaking, particularly stop motion animation, in our STEM booster groups. They are excited and many want to participate but may need adult help submitting their entries. Entries are due April 11th 2023.

Here is a link for information on how to submit, and other information regarding rules and categories.

In STEM we are currently using the app “Koma Koma” for simple filmmaking. Grades 3-5 also use “Stop Motion Studio”. Here is a list of a few other filmmaking apps they can use at home:

  • Stop Motion Studio Pro

  • iMovie

  • Movie Mates

  • Cap Cut
