Ridgecrest Roar – January 30, 2022

RIDGECREST ROAR       Jan. 30, 2022

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

School Information

Kindergarten Registration – If you have a child that will be five years of age on or before September 1, 2022, the child qualifies for kindergarten this fall. State law requires that all school districts in Utah abide by the same September 1st entrance cut-off date.

If you have an incoming kindergarten student, please begin the registration process by following the steps outlined on our website. The link can be found here.

Intent to Return – Please help us to better plan for the next school year by completing the Intent to Return form if you are not planning to return to Ridgecrest next year. A paper form will be sent home at the beginning of the week. There is also a digital option for you found here. Please complete one or the other.

Teacher of the Year – Our Teacher of the Year nominations are ending this Friday, February 4th. We really appreciate those of you who have taken the time to recognize the hard work and dedication of our teachers. If you haven’t completed a nomination yet, please consider doing so because it really means a lot to our teachers. You can complete the nomination by clicking on the link below. You can complete the form for more than one teacher if you would like. Paper copies are also available in the main office. https://forms.gle/rvSjqkSr58W7aPoV6

Remote-Learning Day – Feb. 4th is our next remote-learning day.  Students are expected to participate in learning from home. Teachers will provide learning opportunities for your child as a packet or on Canvas. Please look for more specific information that will be sent by your child’s teacher in their newsletter. Teachers will be available on remote-learning days via email and connect with students through Canvas and Zoom or Google Meet.

From the Utah Safety Council –Motor vehicle crashes kill more children each year than any other cause, but the correct use of child safety seats and safety belts can save lives and prevent the injuries of a large majority of children in crashes. Please join in and help inform others of just how easy it is to protect the ones they love. Buckle up your kids, yourself, and Buckle Up For Love. More information from the Utah Safety Council can be found here.

Zones of Regulation – This week we are learning about the Yellow Zone. When we are in the Yellow Zone, our engine is going fast and there are many different feelings we can experience. The Yellow Zone can be great when we need energy, and it can also be a signal that we need to try some strategies to slow our engine down.  We’ll learn a strategy called “Stop, think, go.” from Miss Allie’s video about the Zones this week: https://canyons.instructure.com/courses/1459254/pages/yellow-zone-strategies-week-of-1-slash-31

For Parents/Guardians:

Supplemental Kindergarten – Applications for Supplemental Kindergarten opened last week and our space available is full. If you are interested in Supplemental Kindergarten, we are still accepting applications through February 8th. Any applications received will be placed on our waitlist. More information, including answers to common questions, is on the CSD website.

Free Mental Health Consultations –The teen years are a time of great physical, social, and intellectual growth. But when do the normal ups and downs of teenage life become something to seek help for? Canyons School District is sponsoring free mental health consultations for students, ages 10-18, and their parents (see flier for schedule). Upon registering, families will be asked to complete a screening tool. During the consultations, licensed counselors will be available to discuss community resources to support your student. The consultations are free of charge, but registration is required in advance: https://calendly.com/csd-mental-health-screening/mental-health-screener-night-mms
