Ridgecrest Roar – January 21, 2022

RIDGECREST ROAR  Jan. 23, 2022

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

We are approaching our 100th day of school this year. It always surprises me how quickly the mid-year mark arrives each year. Our students have been working hard on mid-year assessments and our teachers have been reviewing their progress. This year has had some challenges with many people out sick, but our students continue to work hard and make growth! Thank you for your continued support of our community. We could not do what we do without you.

School Information

Tier III Continues –Our district continues to have a significant number of people who are absent because of illness which means we will continue with the Tier III cleaning protocols and restrictions that were sent earlier. Activities that require groups of students, or volunteers continue to be on hold for now.

Remote-Learning Day – Jan. 28th is our next remote-learning day.  Students are expected to participate in learning from home. Teachers will provide learning opportunities for your child as a packet or on Canvas. Please look for more specific information that will be sent by your child’s teacher in their newsletter. Teachers will be available on remote-learning days via email and connect with students through Canvas and Zoom or Google Meet.

Teacher of the Year-

It is time once again to recognize the teachers at Ridgecrest who make such a difference in the lives of our students through the Teacher of the Year nomination process. Please click on the link below to nominate the teachers who have made a difference to your child this year. You can fill out the link multiple times if you are interested in nominating more than one teacher.  Paper copies are also available in the main office. https://forms.gle/rvSjqkSr58W7aPoV6

Zones of Regulation-

This week we are focusing on the Green Zone.  When we’re in the Green Zone, our engine is going just right and we are typically feeling happy or calm feelings. This is a great time to practice calming strategies so that we are really good at them when we are not in the Green Zone and our engine is going slow, fast, or really fast.  Enjoy this week’s video from Miss Allie: https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/c3VFqdVo7kH

For Parents/Guardians:

Champions Day Care Program:  We are pleased to announce that Champions, an after school daycare program, will be using Ridgecrest as a host site in January.

Canyons Family Center: The Canyons Family Center provides a spectrum of services including individual counseling, student-support groups and parent-education classes. Counseling services will include a preliminary intake process to help our experienced school psychologists and social workers determine what services may be needed to meet a family’s specific needs, whether as a result of an emotional crisis or not, and are provided at no cost to families in Canyons School District.

The Countdown to Supplemental Kindergarten: Our school is pleased to be offering Supplemental Hours of Kindergarten Instruction, and you can apply to enroll for the 2022-2023 school year starting this Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. Students must be 5 years old by Sept. 1, 2022 to participate in the opt-in, tuition-based program. Space is limited and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Phase one of the application process will end on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 11:59 p.m. By Feb. 15, families will be notified of whether their students have been admitted or placed on a waiting list with the option of enrolling in another Canyons District school with openings. Supplemental Kindergarten sets up students for a successful school launch by providing four additional hours of instruction every school day. Participants begin and end school the same time as their first- through fifth-grade peers. Cost for the program is $2,950 a year, and can be paid in monthly installments. A 10 percent discount is available for parents and guardians who pay the yearly tuition in full at one time. There also is a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of $100. Financial-need scholarships also are available for qualifying students. More information, including answers to common questions, is on the CSD website.

PTA News:

Tokyo Teriyaki, in Midvale near Winco will be hosting a fundraising event.  We invite you to get dinner on Tuesday, February 1st from 3-8pm (time correction) and Tokyo Teriyaki will donate a portion of sales to our PTA.
