Ridgecrest Roar – November 3, 2024

Principal’s Message

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

Thank you very much for helping to make Halloween an extra special day for our children by lining our parade route and helping every child to feel special in their costume. I love this community tradition!

This past week, we also had an assembly about digital citizenship and internet safety. Our students reviewed the importance of talking with trusted adults, limiting screen time, and prioritizing people and kindness while using electronic devices. Our students did a wonderful job participating during this assembly.

Today is daylight savings time, so if you haven’t already, remember to set your clocks back 1 hour.

Lost and Found

We are overflowing with lost items. Please remind your child to check the lost and found this week. We will be donating all items remaining at the end of the day on Friday, 11/8.

Veterans Day Assembly

Ridgecrest is proud to honor those in our community who have served in the Armed Forces. We would like to invite our students to submit Honor Wall forms to be displayed for their loved ones, friends, and neighbors that have served our country (living or deceased), and invite them to join us for a reception and assembly to honor them for their service on Friday, Nov. 8th.Information was sent home Friday, or please see the attached flier and form. Submit your Honor Wall forms for display and RSVPs for the Assembly by Nov 6th.

We are excited to continue this tradition of gratitude for those who serve our great nation.

Ridgecrest Food Drive

Our annual food drive will be held November 4th-8th. During this time we are asking for unopened, non-perishable, non-expired food item donations. If your family is able to share, please send these items with your child during this time. All food collected will be donated to families in need within our Ridgecrest Community.

We have two big boxes in the main hall, one marked BYU and one marked University of Utah. Students’ can choose who they cheer for and put the donated food items in the specified box. With the big rivalry football game coming up, this should be fun!

Requesting a Care PackageIf your family would like to receive one of our care packages, please complete this Food Drive Form.

We will have care packages ready to be picked up on November 11th, between 7:30 – 8:30 AM OR from 4:00 – 5:00 PM. Any care packages, not picked up by the end of this day will then be donated to the Brighton High School food pantry.

If you need help or clarification about receiving a care package, please reach out to our front office at (801) 826-9250.

STEM Night

We are excited to announce the return of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Night happening on November 19th, 2023 at Ridgecrest! Our STEM teacher, Alicia Freeman, and a team of volunteers will be facilitating a large variety of STEM activities that are different from last year. We know this will be a fun evening full of STEM exploration for our students and their families.

To do our best to have enough activities for everyone, we are holding 2 sessions on this night. Food will not be provided during this event.

  • 5:30-6:30pmSession 1 – for students whose last name starts with A-M
  • 6:45-7:45pmSession 2 – for studentswhose last name starts with N-Z

We also need volunteers to help facilitate these activities. These activities are all premade and provided ready to go for us. All we need is for people to be willing to read instructions prior to the event, help set up, answer questions, give helpful hints when needed, and clean up their station when it’s over. If you are willing to help us with this event, please sign up at this link:https://forms.gle/dTbKEML5Dj98Fxz58

STEAM Squad members will be able, and encouraged, to help with the event as well.Thank you for your help and support!

Safe Walking Routes

Our School Community Council (SCC) has been working to review and update our school’s safety plans. Attached below is a map and description of our Safe Walking Routes. Please take a moment to review this with your children to make sure you are aware of the safest way to come to school.

We also want to ask everyone to consider the ongoing construction on 7200 South for our children who are walking that way and if you are driving. We are so grateful to Cottonwood Heights City for the sidewalks that have been added on that street this year, however, it will continue to be a less safe area for our children to walk through and a slower way to drive until construction is complete.

And last, we have a reminder that sometimes the safest way to get to and from school is by riding the bus. You can visit our transportation website linked here to see if your child qualifies to ride on a bus.

Hello Ridgecrest Families,

What an exciting week with Halloween in the mix! It was fantastic to see all the creative and fun costumes during the parade. Also I hope the students’ enjoyed the class parties. Also thanks to the teachers, staff, and PTA members who helped the day run smoothly.
