Ridgecrest Roar – October 13, 2024

Principal’s Message

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

It has felt a little bit more like fall this weekend with some lovely cool evenings and the colors starting on our trees. This upcoming week includes our Fall Break. I hope everyone is able to enjoy the outdoors in some way during this time.

Please remember school is not in session for students on Thursday, Friday, or the following Monday. School will resume after Fall Break on Tuesday, October 22nd. There also will not be a Roar this weekend. The next newsletter will be sent on October 27th.

Recycling at Ridgecrest

We have an update about recycling at Ridgecrest. The company we work with has changed their policy and rather than paying the school based on the amount of recycling material collected, the school now pays the company for the collection of recyclable materials. This has significantly increased the cost of maintenance for us.

Because of this, our recycling bin can no longer be a community resource. Please utilize other options for your recycling needs so the added financial burden can be reduced on our school. Thank you for your understanding.

STEM Night

We are excited to announce the return of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Night happening on November 19th, 2023 at Ridgecrest!

Our STEM teacher, Alicia Freeman, and a team of volunteers will be facilitating a large variety of STEM activities that are different from last year. We know this will be a fun evening full of STEM exploration for our students and their families.
To do our best to have enough activities for everyone, we are holding 2 sessions on this night. Food will not be provided during this event.

  • 5:30-6:30pmSession 1 – for students whose last name starts with A-M
  • 6:45-7:45pmSession 2 – for studentswhose last name starts with N-Z

We also need volunteers to help facilitate these activities. These activities are all premade and provided ready to go for us. All we need is for people to be willing to read instructions prior to the event, help set up, answer questions, give helpful hints when needed, and clean up their station when it’s over. If you are willing to help us with this event, please sign up at this link:https://forms.gle/dTbKEML5Dj98Fxz58 STEAM Squad members will be able, and encouraged, to help with the event as well.Thank you for your help and support!

Digital Citizenship

October 14-16, 2024, Canyons School District will be participating in our annual Digital Citizenship Week. As part of the Thrive Time curriculum adopted by the board in June of 2024, students get a lesson approximately every month around digital citizenship issues. Some of the topics include:

● Media balance & well-being

● Privacy & security

● Digital footprints & identity

● Online relationships & communication

● Cyberbullying, digital drama, & hate speech

● News & media literacy
For the week of Digital Citizenship in October, we want to make this a time of celebration, awareness of the importance of digital citizenship, and a reinforcement of the skills they are learning throughout the year. Please take time to ask your student about what they are learning and the fun activities they are participating in.
We are also sharing a couple of resources for you if your family is interested in more information:

  • Costumes should not hinder your ability to participate in classes
  • Costumes should include shoes
  • Costumes and dressing up is optional
