Ridgecrest Roar – November 14, 2021

RIDGECREST ROAR      Nov 14, 2021

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

I want to thank the Ridgecrest Community for the amazing support for our Food Drive.  The University of Utah came out as the winner, but the BYU fans rallied at the end had a good showing. We have a busy week at Ridgecrest with our Chinese AAPPL testing for our 3rd-5th graders.  Our students are also working toward a world record in Playworks.  They will be trying to set the record of the largest number of groups stacking cups at one time. Stayed tuned to see if we can do it!  We are also sending report cards home on Friday, so please watch the backpacks.

Are you in need of some support?  We are wondering if we have some of our own Ridgecrest families that could benefit from our food drive donations this week?  If your family is in need of support, please reach out to me so we can arrange to get food to you. We have a lot of food!  Julia.winfree@canyonsdistrict.org

Wellness:  Every month, our district provides some general wellness resources for parents.  Our school counselor, Miss Allie, will keep these on her Canvas page so you can access them throughout the school year.  This month, the information is about mental wellness through the holidays. Here is a link to this month’s resources: https://canyons.instructure.com/courses/1459254/pages/november-wellness-resources?module_item_id=24798216

She’s also continuing to teach a mindfulness lesson in each class each month. If you would like more information, you can access her schedule and power points used here: https://canyons.instructure.com/courses/1459254/modules#module_2814293

Dual Immersion Lottery Deadline:  Did you know that in Canyons District, it’s possible to learn two languages at the same time and graduate from high school fluent in both? Time is running out to apply for Canyons District’s Dual Language Immersion Programs for the 2022-2023 school year. Parents and guardians must apply online by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021 to place their soon-to-be first grader in one of CSD’s Spanish, French or Mandarin Chinese programs. Please note, students with siblings currently enrolled in a Dual-Language Immersion school must still submit applications by the Nov. 23 deadline. A lottery will be held to determine entrance into the programs if the number of applicants exceeds the seats available per entering class. Information about CSD’s immersion programs and the application process can be found at canyonsdistrict.org. Interested in seeing how dual immersion works? Contact the principal at one of the elementary schools listed below and ask to visit a classroom.
