Ridgecrest Roar – September 19, 2021

Good evening Ridgecrest families,

It is hard to believe that Parent Teacher Conferences are this week.  Please make sure you reach out to your student’s teacher if you do not know your conference time.  Families have the ability to decide if they want to be online or in person.  We will be holding our book fair all week in the media center. 

We will also be holding flu clinics this week during conferences.  The first clinic will be on Wednesday night from 4:00-7:00 PM and the second one will be on Thursday night from 3:00-6:00 PM. They will be in the front hallway of the school.

Are you looking for a fun way to get involved at Ridgecrest?  In the past, we’ve had a volunteer opportunity called Watch Dog Dads, we are shifting that to Playful Parents and focusing on volunteering during lunch recess. This can happen any day from 11:55-1:15. We will have a meeting/training on Friday, October 1st from 4:00-4:30 where we’ll teach you a few favorite recess games so that you can help us engage students in safe and fun play. You’ll also be able to sign up for days to volunteer. Please email Allie Teller if you would like to volunteer at recess and can participate in the meeting on October 1st at: allie.teller@canyonsdistrict.org

If you plan to be a Playful Parent, you will need to fill out a Volunteer application.  A new one needs to be filled out each year. https://foundation.canyonsdistrict.org/volunteer/

PTA Information:

1. We have the Book Fair in the media center on Monday & Tuesday 8:30-3:30pm and Wednesday & Thursday 8:30-8pm.  We need help running the book fair.  Please sign up using this link.  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f084aa9a62ea6ff2-ridgecrest5.  If you can help, but not for the entire time slot, please contact Carrie Christensen at ridgecrest1pta@gmail.com to arrange that.  
2. It’s Parent Teacher Conference Time! The PTA will be providing meals for the teachers on Wednesday and Thursday.  We are looking to supplement the meals with some items.  If you are interested in helping provide drinks, snacks, etc. please sign up at this link https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F084AA9A62EA6FF2-teacher2

4. All grades had their 90% participation rewards this week! 3rd grade also had their snow cones for winning the Change Things Up contest! Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Christensen had a great time sleeping on the roof of the school Friday night, even though they did get rained on a bit Saturday morning!  They loved having students and families, and even pets visit them.  Check out the PTA’s Instagram account @ridgecrest_pta for some pictures.  GREAT JOB, Ridgecrest community for helping raise over $22,000 for the school and PTA!  Some students have been asking when fundraiser prizes will be awarded.  They have NOT been forgotten!  Thank you for your patience.              Thank you to all who have joined PTA so far!!  Please know that Joining PTA has no volunteer commitment requirement. 5. Ms Gallagher’s 2nd grade class had the highest percentage increase in fundraiser participation from Thursday 9/9 – Friday 9/10! Way to go!!  Her home room students will get to silly string Mrs. Winfree on Friday, October 1st as a reward.
