Hello Ridgecrest Families,

What a beautiful weekend, I hope everyone got a chance to make it outside this weekend. This next week is supposed to be nice, but cold. Please make sure your students have a jacket on before they leave the house.

I wanted to thank the Chinese teachers, the PTA, and everyone that attended the Chinese New Year celebration last week.  We had a wonderful time seeing so many smiling faces!

Over the last few weeks we have had growing problems in the parking lot.  Last week we had parents verbally fighting in front of students.  I am asking each of you to please be kind and patient while dropping off and picking up!  It seems one of the most frustrating areas right now is the parking lot. Please remember that you must park in the lot and walk students to the crosswalk in front of the school if you do not want to use the drop off lane.  We can not have students dropped off in the lot and walking behind cars.  We also need cars parked in actual spots, not on the sides or in areas that are crossed off.  I have asked Officer Potter to be on hand over the next few weeks to see if that will help clear up some of the confusion.

We are also having a lot of problems with our handicapped spots.  We are asking that if you are handicapped and NOT getting out of the car, to please use the drop off and pick up lane.  We do not have any students this year that need the handicapped spots, but we have some grandparents and patrons that do.  We have had up to 10 cars using the handicapped spots, but only one or two of them are exiting the car.  If you are driving, but not getting out, please use the drop off lane, we do not have enough spots and people who need to get out are not able to due to so many people using it.  Please review this with your parents if they are helping you with carpooling.  Thank you for your help!

To make up for the instructional time lost due to this week’s cancellation of school in response to extreme weather and dangerous driving conditions, a make-up day will be held on Presidents Day. All Canyons District schools will now hold school on Feb. 17, 2020, on their normal Monday schedules. Transportation will be provided per usual. The Presidents Day holiday was previously set aside by the District’s Calendar Committee as the designated make-up day for emergency school closures for the  2019-2020 school year. More information can be found at canyonsdistrict.org.

A note about Mindfulness and Mental Health from our counselor, Mrs. Ferguson: I have attached a summary in English and Spanish here:
